It’s a ritual in most households that people drink tea or coffee first thing in the morning, as they believe it rejuvenates them. However, having caffeine first thing in the morning causes more inflammation in the already inflamed gut, when you suffer from gut & hormonal issues. It irritates the abdomen lining & increases the Pitta along with Vata, which further leads to more issues like hormone imbalance, bloating, constipation and Pitta (heat) issues. Thus, Ayurveda experts recommend that one should drink this herbal tea that’s free from caffeine first thing in the morning, as it pacifies and soothes the stomach.
To make this herbal tea, you would require, 1 glass of water, some curry leaves, mint leaves, fennel seeds, and coriander seeds.
Put a pan over medium flame and add water to it. Next, add about 15 leaves each of mint & curry leaves along with 1 tbsp fennel seeds and 2 tbsp coriander seeds. Stir once and then bring the mixture to a boil. Lower the flame and then let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes. After some time, turn off the flame and strain the herbal tea. If you like, you can mix a few drops of honey in it, but it can be enjoyed as it is. The herbal tea is ready to be consumed to soothe the mind and body. Try this herbal tea for 15 days and you will start noticing the results.
Ayurveda experts agree that when your Pitta levels are quite high and you are having hormonal imbalances like PCOS, it’s best to drop caffeine off your diet, as only then you will be able to overcome the issues. Aaina Singhal, who is a nutritionist based in Delhi believes that those who cannot control their caffeine consumption must add half tsp cow ghee or 1 tsp coconut oil to the hot cuppa to reduce the damage it causes to their gut and then have it after 30 minutes of drinking this herbal tea. It can help overcome hormonal imbalance.
