Samsung Electronics has announced the sudden passing of its co-chief executive officer,
Han Jong-hee
, who died of cardiac arrest at the age of 63. Han, who oversaw the company’s consumer electronics and mobile devices division, passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital during his time off.
Han Jong-hee joined Samsung Electronics in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become a pivotal figure in the company’s success. Known for his expertise in the TV business, Han played a key role in maintaining Samsung's position as the world’s leading TV brand for 19 consecutive years. He was appointed vice chairman and CEO in 2022, where he led the Device Experience (DX) division, overseeing Samsung's TV, home appliances, and
smartphone businesses.
Han’s passing comes at a time when Samsung faces increasing competition in the global market, particularly from Chinese rivals in the smartphone and consumer electronics sectors. Despite these challenges, Han was instrumental in driving innovation and maintaining Samsung’s reputation as a global tech leader.
Samsung has yet to announce a successor for Han Jong-hee. The company expressed its condolences to Han’s family and colleagues, acknowledging his significant contributions to Samsung’s growth.
