Nintendo Switch 2 sale: Here’s how much consoles company expects to sell in one year

Nintendo has provided the first official sales forecast for the upcoming Switch 2 console. For the fiscal year ending March 2026, Nintendo expects to sell 15 million units of the new console, which is slated for a June release, as per a report. According to a report by CNBC, for the full fiscal year ended March 31, Nintendo sold 10.8 million Switch units.Looking ahead to fiscal year 2026, Nintendo projects net sales of 1.9 trillion yen and a net profit of 300 billion yen, forecasts that show significant growth driven by the Switch 2 launch.Nintendo has priced the Switch 2 at $449.99 in the US and the console features several hardware improvements over the original. The company’s financial performance in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025 saw revenue fall and profit decline compared to the previous year. However, this downturn was largely anticipated by analysts and observers, as many consumers are holding off on purchasing the current Switch console while awaiting its successor.A key factor influencing Nintendo's outlook is the uncertainty surrounding potential US tariffs, particularly impacting consoles manufactured in Vietnam. Nintendo stated its forecasts are based on current tariff rates, but warned that increased duties could necessitate price adjustments, potentially negatively hitting US demand and impacting profit by tens of billions of yen. Notably, Switch 2 preorders went live earlier in some countries. Nintendo cancelled the original April 9 preorder window for the US to assess the impact of the tariffs.Meanwhile, Microsoft and Sony have raised prices of their respective consoles Xbox and PlayStation in certain markets.
